Four Winds Vineyard’s new Sparkling Wines
Have you been missing a little sparkle in your life? Fret not!
This vintage, Four Winds Vineyard has released not one but two sparkling wines to share with our valued customers. This is the fifth vintage that we are making sparkling wine, but this year we are shaking things up with something a little different.
The Tumbarumba Sparkling and the Sparkling Rosé have been a hit with cellar door visitors and wine club members as we gear up for some warmer weather. These bubbles are the perfect match for summer afternoons.

2022 Tumbarumba Sparkling
While this is the fifth vintage that we have made a sparkling wine, this is the first time that we have used Chardonnay grapes.
Usually, we would make this wine from Riesling fruit, but after a hail storm stripped the vineyard of fruit and foliage in January 2022, we took the opportunity to find the best alternative.
Fortunately, we were able to source some much sought-after Chardonnay grapes from Tumbarumba to make this wine.
“Chardonnay is the most important variety in Tumbarumba producing elegant wines with fresh acidity and restrained flavours of peach and citrus. It is also used as a base for top quality sparkling wine.” – WINE AUSTRALIA
Zesty and refreshing, our 2022 Tumbarumba Sparkling has generous citrus and stone fruit flavours. Fresh and fruit driven with a soft, fine bead of bubbles. It is the perfect aperitif or pair it with your favourite cheese.
2022 Sparkling Rosé
The 2022 Sparkling Rosé is made from Shiraz fruit from the Hilltops region.
Again, due to hail damage, we were unable to use our own Shiraz grapes for this vintage however we have been excitedly waiting to release this bottle as the Hilltops is known for its excellent Shiraz.
“The cool climate conditions in the Hilltops region enable the production of elegant red wines, especially Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, both displaying typical seductive aromas, flavour intensity and proven ageing capabilities.” – NSW WINE
This is a vibrant Sparkling Rosé with a nose of red berry fruits, rose petal and a hint of strawberry. There is a great depth of flavour on the palate, complemented by the fine bead and fresh spritzy finish.
This is a wine that we will be reaching for regularly this summer as the weather gets warmer.
The history of Sparkling’s at Four Winds
In 2017, our COO, John Collingwood travelled to Germany to work a vintage in Geisenheim. While there he discovered Sparkling Riesling, a wine that was popular and delicious but was not readily available in Australia.
So, after he returned we set about purchasing as many Australian Sparkling Riesling’s as possible to see how the Aussie versions stacked up. And try as we may, we were only able to rustle up half a dozen bottles that had been made here in Australia. So in 2018, after much research, we released our own.
This wine had light, refreshing Riesling characteristics, with the added fun of bubbles.
With our large plantings of Riesling, the sparkling was a natural fit for Four Winds Vineyard and this wine is now a staple in our annual production and a favourite among tasters.

2021 Sparkling Riesling 92/100
“Light, bright lemon colour with a mousse of bubbles. The nose is very fresh, youthful and flowery, like Riesling; the palate is delicately-weighted but intense and bright, lively and energetic right through to the aftertaste. There’s a trace of sweetness but the acidity drives the finish long and satisfying. Classic floral and lemon-citrus Riesling flavours.”
